Research Topics I Am Considering:

The two following research topics I a very interested in learning more about because of the relationship it has on me.

1. What was the Real Effect of Gandhi's Hunger Strike on the British?
(This would analyze that it wasn't the actual hunger strike, but what the hunger strike meant behind closed doors)

2. What is the effect of Janism on Gandhi's philosophy regarding nonviolence and civil disobedience?
(This would analyze Jainist philosophies and intertwine well with the Core Course)

Who Do I Associate With in Sophocle's Antigone?

In many respects I associate myself with characteristics from all four of the characters that we have analyzed, Ismene, Haemon, Creon, and Antigone, but mostly I would have to say that I associate with Haemon. The reason is that you have to appeal to both sides and attempt to maintain the balance in a situation that has both positive and negative aspects to the decision that needs to be made. I agree with Haemon's ideology that justice considers both sides as there might not be a solution to a problem, just a decision with the least amount of repercussions. I also agree with his thought that one must learn to listen. This is because through experience I have discovered that listening to one side may be very convincing if you hear it first, but your opinion on the matter may change hearing the other side of the story. Balance is important.

Life In My Eyes

I am one of those people who choose to make the most out of every situation and opportunity. My name is Saurin Gandhi and this is my first post of what will become a part of my life starting as a freshman at UCI. A little bit about me; I grew up in Carson, California the first 10 years of my life and lived the last 8 years in Placentia, California. I'm Asian Indian and I have one older brother who attends the University of Southern California. I was in the symphony orchestra for 7 years. I have been vegetarian my entire life and am EXTREMELY fond of sports. For fun, I bowl, play volleyball, and play football. I grew up swimming, playing basketball, playing baseball, and playing soccer. I played racquetball and was on a national team for India, but ended up not participating because of injury. I played basketball, tennis, and ran cross country in high school. I quit basketball early after I got onto the Varsity Squad, to pursue my #1 ranking in tennis and our 6th place in state competition for cross country. I'm 5'8.5" and i weigh about 150 pounds, after gaining 7 pounds of hopefully muscle since the summer of last year. The friends I have made at Irvine have been the sole reason why I am staying here rather than switching to another University as I had forcefully gone to Irvine rather than San Diego by the persuasion of my parents (closer to home). I hope to experience the best things in college and I hope to pursue my goal of becoming a specialist in the medical field. I love to meet new people and make friends that will connect with me throughout the years. School's a pain, but a necessity, and I wish to do the best here so that I can have a better future.
